A room of their own: WHEN’s program for emerging women writers begins!
WHEN, in collaboration with WHEN Hub and with the support of the Estée Lauder Emerging Leaders Fund and Vital Voices, is thrilled to announce the launch of the program “A Room of Their Own”, aimed at empowering young and underrepresented women writers in Greece. The program seeks to educate, connect, and promote creators by offering a safe, creative, and supportive environment.
What stories do young creators have to tell, especially those who may not have access to education, networks, publishing opportunities, or even simply a space where they can write without distractions? How can the voices of these writers -who may be marginalized because of their age, nationality, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background- enrich and transform contemporary literary production in its broadest sense: in theatre, film, poetry, prose, and beyond?
The “A Room of Their Own” program aims to answer these questions and fill this gap by creating an inclusive literary community that amplifies women’s voices and promotes equality through the power of storytelling.
What does the program include?
What does the program include?
–Educational masterclasses with acclaimed Greek women authors, where participants will develop creative writing skills.
–Creation of a writers’ community, with free access to the WHEN Hub co-working space and creative childcare. The community will hold monthly meetings for exchange, inspiration, and mutual support and will have access to networking and visibility opportunities through the program.
–Digital publication of selected literary works by participants, serving as a tool for social change and advocacy for gender equality.
–Residency of an international author at WHEN Hub, who will lead one of the masterclasses and participate in the program’s closing event.
–Social media campaign and public reading of participants’ works at the end of the program.
Who can apply?
- The program is open to new or aspiring women writers, regardless of age, nationality, place of residence, or literary genre -provided they have published no more than one work (or equivalent for film or theatre) and can participate in program activities in Greek in order to fully benefit from them.
- Priority will be given to creators from underrepresented groups, whether due to race, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, or other aspects of their identity.
- You can apply even if you’ve never called yourself a writer, have never been published, or don’t even know which literary genre your work fits into.

The “A Room of Their Own” program aspires to become a landmark for literature in Greece, a tool for social change, feminist action, and women’s empowerment. Through it, WHEN continues its mission to promote equality, empowerment, and feminist leadership: this time through literature, imagination, and the stories of women who are changing the world around them.
