FAIR PAY: For transparency and equality in payments
On the occasion of today’s World Equal Pay Day (18 September), we share our enthusiasm for our participation in the FAIR PAY project to achieve transparency and eliminate the gender pay gap!
Equality between men and women is a fundamental right and a prerequisite for a fair and inclusive society. However, pay inequality remains a persistent problem worldwide, including the European Union and Greece. The so-called “gender pay gap” reflects the inequality in the salary paid to men and women for work of equal value or for the same work, and is an indication of broader structural inequalities in the workplace and society.
Eliminating the gender pay gap is imperative, not only for reasons of equality and justice, but also for reasons of economic development, as the full utilization of women’s potential enhances productivity and competitiveness. In this context, the FAIR PAY Project is being implemented, with the General Secretariat for Equality and Human Rights (GSHE) which is the coordinating body and partners the Center for Research on Equality Issues (KETHI), WHEN Equity, Empowerment, Change, and the Hellenic Entrepreneurs’ Association (SEGE), with co-financing from Greece and the European Union, through the “Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values” (CERV) Program.
The main objective of the FAIR PAY Project is to contribute to the elimination of the gender pay gap and to address its actual causes, by promoting pay transparency under the European Directive 2023/970, which focuses on the working environments of businesses. Specifically, the project aims to pilot the implementation of the provisions of the Directive, and will try to identify potential related challenges before Greece puts into force, as it is obliged, the legislative, regulatory and administrative provisions required to comply with the Directive.
Specifically, within the framework of the project:
- We will identify and document good practices and procedures regarding pay transparency systems and tools, and develop a guide, tools and checklists for the assessment and comparison of equal pay.
- We will implement capacity-building seminars for employers, institutions and employees on gender pay transparency and the implementation of gender-neutral performance assessment systems.
- We will organize information and awareness-raising actions on the importance of pay transparency, highlighting the benefits of gender-neutral working conditions and initiatives that promote gender equality, both for institutions and employees.
- We will promote friendly working environments for women and men in order to strengthen gender equality in the Greek labor market through consultations and knowledge exchange.
We want you all to join us in this effort!
