Awareness-raising & training seminars for university students on supporting victims of sexual harassment at work
Within the framework of the S.T.A.R.T. project (Strategic Tools for Addressing, Recognizing and Tackling Sexual Harassment at Work), WHEN, in collaboration with BIA STOP, is organising a series of free awareness-raising and training seminars aimed at empowering university students of Law and related disciplines to effectively handle cases of sexual harassment in the workplace.
Effective support for victims requires a combination of legal expertise, empathy and practical skills. With the goal of equipping future professionals with tools and knowledge that will accompany them throughout their careers -enabling them to recognise, address and combat incidents of sexual harassment with sensitivity and effectiveness. The seminars will cover:
- An overview of the applicable legal framework (criminal, civil, labour and disciplinary law) and employees’ rights in cases of sexual harassment.
- Practical tools for identifying and documenting incidents, with respect for due process and the rights of all parties involved.
- The psychosocial dimensions of trauma and ways to prevent re-victimisation during legal or institutional procedures.
- Stereotypes and biases that influence professional attitudes, and practices for conscious, non-discriminatory support.
- Social resistance, economic and professional factors that discourage victims from speaking out, and empowerment strategies.
- Challenges of proof and tools for substantiating cases in situations where evidence is limited.
Upon completion, participants will gain a deeper understanding of both the institutional and human dimensions of sexual harassment in the workplace. They will acquire tools for prompt and appropriate responses to incidents, develop the skills needed to act as informed and effective allies in the pursuit of justice and protection for victims, and become part of a professional network of practitioners and organisations working in the field.

The project S.T.A.R.T. (Strategic Tools for Addressing, Recognizing and Tackling Sexual Harassment at Work) is being implemented under the PREVENT programme by WHEN and its partner, VIA STOP. The programme “Preventing gender-based violence and violence against children” (PREVENT) aims to prevent and combat gender-based violence (GBV) and violence against children, by supporting Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) active in these fields, in Greece and Cyprus, and by increasing their knowledge, capacity, and sustainability. PREVENT is co-funded by the European Union through the Citizens, Equality, Rights, and Values (CERV) programme, Bodossaki Foundation, and NGO Support Centre, with a total grant amount of €2.3 million. PREVENT is coordinated by the Bodossaki Foundation (Greece) in partnership with the NGO Support Centre (Cyprus).
