CAREdiZO: Care is everyone's responsibility!

CAREdiZO: “Gaining from caring” – A new European project by MIGS on gender equality at work, at home and in society.

What does it mean to care? It means raising children, supporting older parents, and managing the household. Often, this is done without recognition or adequate support. Care responsibilities still fall disproportionately on women.

In Greece, according to the 2022 European Gender Equality Index:

  • Women spend 17.3 hours per week on unpaid care and domestic responsibilities, compared to 8.4 hours for men
  • In households with children under the age of 12, 59% of women take on daily caregiving responsibilities, in contrast to only 23% of men.

Our new project ‘CAREdiZO’ aims to change this. This European project aims to promote the equal share of care and close the gender gap by empowering organizations and businesses through  innovative digital tools, training, and networking opportunities.

The name CAREdiZO combines the Greek words for “earn” and “live,” expressing the strength and creativity that arise when care is recognized, shared, and supported.

The objectives of CAREdiZO

  • Promote work-life balance policies in SMEs and NGOs – which represent 93.5% of European organisations.
  • Position  care as both a life skill and a professional asset.
  • Challenge gender stereotypes that  confine women to unpaid care work.
  • Support men’s active participation in child-care, domestic responsibilities, and parental leave.
  • Align with the EU Directive on work-life balance for parents and carers (Work-Life Balance Directive).

What does CAREdiZO bring?

  • Pan-European research on work-life balance policies.
  • Interactive e-learning tools and educational games for businesses and organisations.
  • Podcasts featuring stories of people breaking gender stereotypes and inspiring change.
  • Transnational community of practice exchange from Cyprus, Greece, Lithuania and Bulgaria.
  • A new “CAREdiZO certification” that recognizes and supports organisations that invest in and actively promote equality and work-life balance.
  • Events and open public dialogue on care as a core social value.
